Supervision

Supervision is essential for all practicing Speech and Language Therapists as outlined by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Supervision supports clinical competency, ethical practice and professional well-being while ensuring you continue to meet professional standards.

I will provide a safe supportive space where you can reflect on the successes and challenges of clinical and professional practice and develop your skills. I will support you to develop knowledge of clinical areas that are new to you or complex, facilitating your learning and professional development and ensuring accountable practice. I will also assist you with managing the demands of clinical work to promote well-being. As a supervisor I will not provide all of the answers but by asking you questions and encouraging reflection, I will facilitate your own problem solving.

I can support with:

  • Developing and extending your skills and knowledge within my clinical areas of expertise
  • Updating you on training and research and facilitation of ongoing CPD
  • Dealing with caseload management and managing everyday barriers and frustrations
  • Successful multidisciplinary team working and managing work relationships
  • Developing professional and leadership skills
  • Ideas for service development, training and research
  • Prioritisation skills and ensuring a good work life balance
  • Job applications, CVs and interview preparation
  • Helping you to manage change in your role, workplace or as you move through your SLT career

Mentoring

Mentoring focuses on an individual's professional growth and career development and can be more informal and flexible. I can support you as you take on new challenges and find new opportunities to grow and develop into leadership roles. I often use a Coaching approach to help you develop your own solutions to challenges and work towards your professional goals.

What to expect

  • An initial phone call to discuss your supervision or mentoring requirements.
  • Sessions can be arranged at a frequency to suit you. I can provide monthly supervision as required by the RCSLT (long term or for specific periods) or I can provide supplementary supervision to cover certain areas. Supervision or mentoring can be ongoing, block booked, or ad hoc when you need to chat through specific issues.
  • Our supervision/mentoring will evolve over time as you become more confident, and I will ensure that we regularly review your changing needs together.
  • I can provide individual, pair or group sessions online through a platform such as Teams or we can meet in person at my TW7 address if preferred.
